Maurice Merleau-Ponty (1908–1961) was a major French philosopher of the 20th century, known for his work on phenomenology and perception. A professor at the Sorbonne and the Collège de France, he deeply influenced contemporary thought with his reflections on the body, consciousness, and the relationship between the individual and the world. Initially close to Sartre, he later distanced himself from him over political and philosophical disagreements. Merleau-Ponty left a lasting mark on modern philosophy with his embodied view of human experience.
