The novel is based on a historical fact: on September 23, 1714, a mountain in the Swiss Alps, called the Diablerets, collapsed. This resulted in great casualties, but the legend of a young shepherd trapped under the mountain, who returns and, before he can find his place in life, is forced to prove that he is not a ghost, has remained. "Der Borance" is considered the writer's masterpiece.
